The roads to most of the starting points for treks are very good tarmac!

4WD vehicles NOT needed but easy to get anyway! The worst roads are rocky, not muddy. It is possible to rent a self-drive 4WD car for as little as $70 a day (excluding fuel). Here is a picture of a car we rented in September 2007.

It is VERY easy and safe to self-drive in Rwanda. The roads to the main tourist attractions are possibly the best in East Africa!

Five volcanoes - Karisimbi (4,507m), Bisoke (3,711m), Sabyinyo (3,634m), Gahinga (3,474m) and Muhabura (4,127m) - make a chain which covers an area of 16000ha.

Dates:

Open all year

Rates and fees 2007 for foreign visitors (subject to change):

Park Entry Fees - $25  valid for 24 hours (to be added to the Gorilla visit fees and other activities below)

Gorilla visit - $475

Karisimbi hike (2 days) - $150 (camping gear, food/water extra)

Bisoke hike (1 day) - $50 (camping gear, food/water extra). Parking area is at the Amahoro gorillas)

Dian Fossey tomb - $50 (parking area is at the Amahoro gorillas)

Golden Monkeys visit - $75  (there are 2 groups:)

          - Musonga is near the parking areas for Susa gorillas

          - Kabatwa is near the parking areas for Group 13 gorillas 

Children:

15 or older may visit gorillas
